GTA 6 heads for record-breaking launch as pre-orders surge worldwide

GTA 6 - Grand Theft Auto VI

The wait for GTA 6 is still far from over. Even so, excitement around the game is already reaching new heights. Early sales figures suggest Rockstar Games could be preparing for one of the biggest launches the industry has ever seen.

A huge start before release

New figures from market research firm Newzoo show players are spending heavily on digital pre-orders. The company tracked around $180 million in purchases across the US and several major European countries during late June.

That total only covers part of the market. Global estimates put pre-order spending at roughly $260 million so far. The game is also still months away from release, leaving plenty of time for those numbers to grow.

Newzoo says it has never recorded an opening pre-order period on this scale. At the same time, the firm dismissed claims that the game has already crossed the $1 billion mark before launch.

Fans are aiming for GTA 6 premium editions

A large share of buyers appears to be choosing the more expensive editions instead of the standard version. That could lift launch revenue well beyond early expectations.

Industry analysts now believe GTA 6 could generate between $3.25 billion and $5 billion during its first week on sale if current demand continues.

For comparison, Grand Theft Auto V earned $1 billion within three days back in 2013. With a much larger player base and years of anticipation behind it, its successor looks ready to set an even bigger record.
