Sony finally brought the fireworks.
After months of rumours and smaller updates, June’s State of Play delivered one of PlayStation’s busiest showcases in recent memory. New first-party projects, surprise sequels, and plenty of release dates filled the presentation.
State of Play Showcase
God of War and Wolverine lead the charge
The biggest talking point was God of War Laufey. Instead of Kratos, players will step into the boots of Faye. The reveal trailer showed a faster combat style and a very different side of the series. It is currently targeting 2027.
Marvel’s Wolverine also made a strong return. The new gameplay footage highlighted brutal combat, iconic X-Men characters, and a much larger world than many expected.

Elsewhere, Phantom Blade Zero continued to impress ahead of its October launch. Dune: Awakening confirmed its console release, while Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall both locked in September dates.
Capcom had a solid showing too. Onimusha: Way of the Sword received a release date and an immediate demo, giving fans a chance to jump in straight away.

Surprise returns and a look towards 2027
Not every announcement was for this year. Until Dawn 2 stole the show with a surprise reveal, while Kemuri, ILL, and The Lost Wild all set their sights on 2027.
There were also a few unexpected returns. Rayman Legends Retold, Stuntman: Hollywood, and a remaster of Dynasty Warriors 3 brought a heavy dose of nostalgia.

For PlayStation fans, this was the State of Play many had been waiting for. And judging by what was shown, Sony’s next few years suddenly look a lot busier.
