Metro 2039 wishlist spike hits 1 Million, but hype isn’t the whole story

One million wishlists in just two weeks is a strong start for Metro 2039, but it also shows how quickly hype builds around a familiar name. The Metro series has always had that kind of pull.

Developer 4A Games thanked fans for the response, calling it surprising as the game heads towards its winter release window.

That surge likely comes from the reveal trailer, which leaned back into psychological horror and tight tunnel settings, a shift away from the more open structure of Metro Exodus, which launched back in 2019.

Fans of the series know that atmosphere has always been its biggest strength, placing it alongside STALKER as one of the more grounded takes on post-apocalyptic survival.

There is also added context behind development, with 4A Games previously noting how the war in Ukraine affected production, including an earlier version of the project that was later scrapped and partially leaked online.

But wishlists are not sales. The real test for Metro 2039 comes at launch, when early interest either turns into players or fades as the hype cycle moves on.
