The Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake is still in development, giving fans of the classic action games a reason to stay hopeful. Remedy Entertainment confirmed the project is still part of its current game production work in its latest financial report.
The remake was first announced in 2022 and will bring Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne together as one game. Remedy is leading development, while Rockstar Games is funding the project and will publish it.
For now, though, fans should not expect a new trailer or major details. Remedy was asked about the remake during its latest financial report presentation but said it could not share more information because Rockstar is responsible for publishing the game.
That means details about the gameplay, release date and marketing plans are still being kept under wraps.
A full remake of the first two games
The project is being built with Remedy’s Northlight Engine, the same technology used for the studio’s newer games. Remedy has described the project as a large AAA production.
Rather than simply giving the original games a visual upgrade, the studio is rebuilding both titles for modern hardware. The two campaigns will also be presented together as one connected experience.
The original Max Payne was released in 2001 and became known for its dark story, comic book style and famous bullet time gameplay. Its sequel, Max Payne 2, followed in 2003 and continued Max’s story with a stronger focus on its characters and narrative.
The remake gives Remedy a chance to bring both games to a new generation while keeping the core experience that made them popular.

There is still no confirmed release date for Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake. Rockstar has also not announced when it plans to show the game again.
