The BBC has reported that hacker group ShinyHunters is threatening to publish data stolen from Rockstar Games after the studio failed to respond to their demands following a breach carried out last week.
ShinyHunters, identified by the BBC as a group of English-speaking cybercriminals thought to be teenagers, told the outlet directly that the stolen material would be released. The nature of the demands made to Rockstar has not been disclosed by either party.

Rockstar Games has confirmed the incident occurred, but has been measured in how it characterises the damage. A statement said “a limited amount of non-material company information” as having been accessed via a third-party breach, with the studio maintaining the situation carries no consequence for its operations or player base.
The breach puts Rockstar Games in an uncomfortable position, publicly downplaying an incident while a known threat actor insists a data dump is imminent. Nothing has been published as of writing, leaving the situation unresolved.

GTA 6 remains scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X on 19th November 2026. A PC release window has yet to be confirmed. Should any breached material surface online, the picture may look quite different to the one Rockstar is currently presenting.
