Destiny 3 Petition Surpasses Marathon Player Peak as Fans Rally Behind Bungie’s Old Franchise

Destiny 3

The numbers around Marathon are starting to look worse by the week.

A fan petition asking Sony to approve Destiny 3 has now crossed 170,000 signatures. That is a massive figure on its own, but players quickly noticed something awkward. The petition has likely attracted more people than Marathon managed during its launch week peak.

Based on current estimates and Steam tracking, Marathon reportedly peaked somewhere around 130,000 to 150,000 players across all platforms. The petition has already gone beyond that mark, and it is still gaining traction online.

That says a lot about where Bungie fans currently stand.

The studio spent years building Destiny into one of gaming’s biggest live-service names. But after Destiny 2 reached its conclusion, Bungie shifted attention towards Marathon. The problem is that the extraction shooter has struggled to keep momentum almost immediately after release.

Players are now treating the petition as more than a joke campaign. Many see it as a direct message to Sony that interest in Destiny has not disappeared at all.

Some fans are even organising return events for Destiny 2 ahead of the final Monument of Triumph update on 9 June. The idea is simple. Fill servers, boost activity, and show there is still a large audience waiting for another mainline entry.

Whether Sony actually responds is another matter entirely. Bungie has already faced layoffs, and greenlighting a full Destiny 3 would cost a fortune.

Still, the comparison is brutal. Right now, a Destiny 3 petition is generating more energy than Bungie’s newest game.
