Sony has confirmed that the price and launch date of the next-generation PlayStation 6 console are still not final. During a recent investor call, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki explained that the company is carefully watching the market before making any major decision about the upcoming PlayStation 6.
According to Totoki, DRAM memory prices are expected to remain high through fiscal year 2027 because of ongoing supply shortages. He said Sony has not yet decided when the new console will launch or how much it will cost. The company wants to closely observe market conditions before moving forward.

This shows that rising hardware costs are becoming a serious challenge for gaming companies. Memory chips are one of the most important parts inside modern consoles, and higher prices can directly affect the final retail price for players.
Sony is not the only company facing this issue. Reports suggest that the upcoming Xbox Helix could launch at around $1,000, making it one of the most expensive Xbox consoles ever. At the same time, there have also been talks about a possible price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2, especially as sales in the United States have started to slow down.

The PlayStation 5 also recently received a price increase in several regions. While Sony blamed the “global economic landscape,” many people believe increasing DRAM costs played a major role behind the decision.
For now, fans waiting for the PlayStation 6 may need to stay patient. Sony appears more focused on market stability and hardware costs before revealing its next major gaming system.
