S-GAME, the studio behind Phantom Blade Zero, has confirmed via social media that the upcoming action title has been developed entirely without the use of artificial intelligence, positioning the announcement as a direct response to what it describes as an accelerating industry trend.
The post, which also confirmed the game is in its final stages of development, outlined in considerable detail the traditional methods employed throughout production. Weapons were hand-drawn from references rooted in classical Chinese weaponry. Combat animations were produced through motion capture sessions involving more than twenty martial artists. Maps were rendered using Chinese brushes and Xuan paper, a choice that reads less like a production note and more like a point of pride.

S-GAME was candid about the broader context, acknowledging the “profound technological revolution” unfolding across the industry while making clear it had no intention of participating, at least not where creative output is concerned. The studio stated that no AI visual technology would be used in a capacity that might compromise its artists’ original intent, a line that doubles as both a policy and a philosophy.
The reception among Phantom Blade Zero’s prospective audience has been largely positive. In a landscape where AI adoption is quietly becoming standard practice, the specificity and transparency of S-GAME’s position has clearly resonated with players who’ve grown weary of studios that offer little clarity on the matter.
Phantom Blade Zero does not yet have a confirmed release date.
