The long wait for Crysis 4 continues, but the game is not gone. The project is now on hold, as Crytek shifts its focus to more stable and smaller projects.
The next entry in the Crysis series was first announced back in 2022. At that time, a short teaser created strong excitement among fans. Many expected the series to return in a big way. However, since that reveal, there have been no major updates about the game.

Things started to change in 2024 and 2025. Reports confirmed that Crytek faced financial problems. The studio also reduced its workforce by around 15 percent. This made it difficult to continue work on a large and expensive project like Crysis 4.
Because of this, the company decided to move its team and budget to Hunt: Showdown 1896. This game is smaller in scope and easier to support in the current situation. It gives the studio a better chance to recover financially.
As a result, Crysis 4 has been placed on indefinite hold. It has not been cancelled, but there is no release date, no gameplay, and no clear details about the story. Right now, the project is in a waiting phase.
The future of Crysis 4 depends heavily on how well Hunt: Showdown 1896 performs. If the game succeeds, Crytek may return to Crysis 4 later. If not, the chances of seeing the game will become very low.
This situation shows a clear problem in the industry. Announcing big games too early can create hype, but it also brings risk. When development slows down or stops, that excitement quickly turns into silence.
