Artificial intelligence is finding its way into every corner of game development. But not everyone is convinced it should be doing all the work.

A senior figure at CD Projekt Red has suggested that fully AI-created games are likely on the horizon. Even so, he is not sure that the future sounds particularly appealing.

Fast development, bigger questions

Speaking during a recent industry discussion, CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski described a conversation with an AI-focused game company.

The studio claimed it could build dozens of game concepts in a matter of days. The strongest ideas would then be selected, refined, and pushed towards release in just a few weeks.

That speed is hard to ignore. Traditional game development can take years, especially for large projects.

Yet Nowakowski appeared sceptical about whether moving that quickly is actually a good thing.

Saving time is not everything

Game budgets have exploded over the past decade. Publishers are constantly looking for ways to reduce costs and shorten development cycles.

AI tools promise exactly that. They can help create assets, generate ideas, and automate tasks that once required large teams.

The concern is whether efficiency comes at the expense of creativity.

Players tend to remember games because of memorable worlds, characters, and stories. Those are areas where human developers still play a major role.

The debate is only getting started

Whether studios like it or not, AI is becoming a bigger part of modern development.

The real question is not if AI-made games will arrive. It is whether players will embrace them once they do.

For now, even some industry leaders seem unsure of the answer.
