Capcom has finally spoken about the backlash around Resident Evil Requiem and the changes caused by DLSS 5. Many players were unhappy because the feature slightly changed how the character Grace looked in the game.
In a recent interview, director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa made it clear they are not worried about the criticism. Instead, they see it as a good sign.

Kumazawa explained that players reacted strongly because they liked Grace’s original look. According to him, this proves the team did their job well. If people care enough to complain, it means the character already connected with fans.
Players helped prove Grace is a fan favourite
The developers believe Grace became popular very quickly. The strong reaction showed that players did not want anything to change about her. That kind of response is rare and usually means the design worked from the start.
However, the team did not address earlier claims that developers were not fully informed about how DLSS 5 could affect character visuals. That part still remains unclear.
A very strong launch for the game
Despite the controversy, the game itself is doing extremely well. In just over two weeks, Resident Evil Requiem sold more than 6 million copies. That makes it the fastest-selling title in the series so far.
The developers said they were happy and also relieved. They had kept many parts of the game secret before launch, especially story details linked to Raccoon City. Watching player reactions after release confirmed that their plan worked.
Keeping surprises safe paid off
Before release, some story leaks appeared online. Capcom even asked players not to share spoilers. It seems that effort helped protect the experience for many players.
Now, with strong sales and positive reactions, Capcom is clearly confident. The DLSS 5 issue created noise, but it did not damage the game’s success. If anything, it showed that players are paying close attention—and that’s something developers usually want.
