Activision and Infinity Ward have officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The next game in the popular shooter series will launch on October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Modern Warfare 4 takes players into a new global conflict that starts on the Korean Peninsula. The story follows a young South Korean soldier named Park as he faces war for the first time after a sudden invasion. At the same time, Captain Price is on a personal mission that slowly becomes connected to a much larger threat.
The campaign will take players to different parts of the world. Missions will include battles in Korea, combat in New York, chases through Paris, raids in Mumbai, and large military operations in occupied cities. Infinity Ward says the story will be one of the biggest and most emotional campaigns in the Modern Warfare series.
Multiplayer is also getting several improvements. A new system called Ballistic Authority has been added to make weapons feel more realistic and responsive. The developers say shooting will be more accurate, while recoil and weapon handling have been improved for better control during firefights.
Movement has also been updated. Players will be able to climb, jump, mantle, and move around maps more smoothly. These changes are designed to make combat feel faster while still keeping the realistic style of Modern Warfare.
At launch, the game will include 12 core multiplayer maps. One of the most interesting additions is Kill Block, a special map that changes its layout between rounds. This means players will have to adjust their strategy as the battlefield changes.
The Gunsmith system returns with more customization options. Players can unlock new attachments and build weapons to match their preferred playstyle. Infinity Ward is also introducing Apex Attachments, which can change how fully upgraded weapons perform in combat.
DMZ is returning as well. The extraction mode will place players in dangerous war zones where they must complete objectives, collect loot, and escape safely. Dynamic weather and changing objectives are expected to make every match feel different.
For PC players, Modern Warfare 4 will include support for advanced graphics features, including DLSS 4.5, improved ray tracing, and more performance settings. The game is built specifically for current-generation hardware and will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
Another major announcement is the return of Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms. Modern Warfare 4 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, making it the first Modern Warfare title to appear on a Nintendo system in more than ten years.

Players can pre-order the game now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-order bonuses include early access to the open beta and the Hunter Killer Operator Skin. A Vault Edition is also available with extra operator skins, weapon packs, BlackCell content, and additional rewards.
With a brand-new story, updated multiplayer systems, the return of DMZ, and support for Nintendo Switch 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
