Logitech is taking a different approach to AI-powered development with its new Logitech MX Keypad. Rather than adding another software layer to an already crowded coding setup, the company has built a small physical controller that puts AI tools, commands and shortcuts directly under the user’s fingertips.
The MX Keypad is aimed at developers who regularly jump between coding environments and AI assistants. It features nine customizable LCD keys that can be programmed for different actions, allowing the same hardware to serve different purposes depending on the application in use.
A Physical Shortcut for the AI Era
AI coding has made development workflows more powerful, but it has also added another layer of tools to manage. Developers may now have an AI assistant running alongside their IDE, terminal and other applications.
Logitech’s MX Keypad is designed around reducing that constant switching. Its keys can launch commands, trigger saved prompts, run macros and perform actions across supported applications.
The keys are also LCD-based, so their icons can change according to the assigned function. That makes the keypad more flexible than a traditional macro pad where every button is permanently tied to one shortcut.
GitHub Copilot Is Part of the Launch
Logitech worked with GitHub to build native support into the MX Keypad. The initial integration covers GitHub, VS Code and GitHub Copilot, with Logitech planning to expand the range of supported tools.
The company is also including three months of GitHub Copilot Pro+ with every MX Keypad. The offer can be claimed through Logi Options+ and is available to both new and existing users.
Beyond GitHub’s ecosystem, the keypad works with tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex through available plugins and custom integrations.
The Interesting Part Is What Developers Can Build
Logitech is not treating the MX Keypad as a closed accessory. The company has opened its Logi Actions SDK so developers can create their own integrations.
That could make the device more useful over time. Community plugins are already available for Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, including features for checking AI agent status and controlling command-line tools from the physical keys.
The official Logitech software also allows users to create their own shortcuts, prompts and macros. App-aware profiles can change the functions assigned to the keys when the user moves between applications.
Small Enough to Sit Beside a Keyboard
The MX Keypad is designed as a compact desktop accessory rather than a replacement for a keyboard. It connects through USB-C, weighs 96 grams and works with Windows 10 or later and macOS 13 or later.
It is available in Graphite and Pale Grey. Logitech has also used certified post-consumer recycled plastic, with the Graphite model containing 64% recycled plastic and the Pale Grey version containing 49%.
Logitech MX Keypad Price and Availability
The Logitech MX Keypad launched in select markets on September 8, 2026. It is priced at $99.99 in the US and €99.99 in Europe.
The bigger question is whether developers actually need a dedicated controller for AI coding. Logitech is betting that they do, especially as developers increasingly work with multiple AI agents at the same time.
At $99.99, the MX Keypad is also considerably cheaper than Logitech’s $199.99 MX Creative Console, although the new model focuses on the keypad portion rather than including the separate dial control.
