Most fans thought The Witcher 3 was finished years ago.
That is no longer the case.
CD Projekt Red has officially revealed Songs of the Past, a brand-new expansion for its acclaimed RPG. The DLC is planned for release in 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The announcement follows months of rumours. A recent leak appears to have pushed the studio into confirming the project earlier than expected.
Details remain limited. What CD Projekt Red has confirmed is that players will once again step into the boots of Geralt of Rivia. That alone is enough to get many long-time fans excited.

The timing is also interesting. With The Witcher 4 expected to focus on Ciri, this expansion could serve as a farewell chapter for Geralt before the series moves fully into a new era.
The project is being developed alongside Fools Theory, the studio made up of several developers who previously worked on Witcher titles. More information is expected later this summer.
There is already plenty of speculation online. Some fans believe the story could explore lands never seen in the games before. Others think it may help connect the events of The Witcher 3 to the next main entry.

CD Projekt Red also confirmed that future updates will require an SSD on PC. Traditional hard drives will no longer be supported by the updated version of the game.
For now, players have a long wait ahead. But after a decade, few expected The Witcher 3 to receive another major adventure.
