Quantic Dream Pulls the Plug on Spellcaster Chronicles as Financial Pressure Mounts

Spellcasters Chronicles

Quantic Dream has officially shut down Spellcaster Chronicles. The fantasy multiplayer project will now end far earlier than expected, with servers set to close on 19 June 2026.

The studio confirmed the news through a public statement on social media. According to Quantic Dream, Spellcaster Chronicles failed to reach the level of success needed to keep development going. The company blamed current market conditions and said the project could no longer support itself financially.

It is another reminder of how rough things are across the games industry right now. Even known studios are struggling to keep live-service projects alive unless they hit big numbers quickly.

Players who spent money during the early access period can request full refunds. Quantic Dream also said it plans to reorganise internally, though the studio claims it will try to move affected staff into other roles where possible.

The bigger question now surrounds Star Wars: Eclipse.

Reports earlier this year claimed Quantic Dream hoped Spellcaster Chronicles would help bring in extra revenue while Eclipse remained deep in development. At the time, there were also claims that publisher NetEase could rethink its long-term support if the fantasy title failed commercially.

Quantic Dream says Star Wars: Eclipse is still safe and development has not been impacted. Still, after this cancellation, people are naturally going to wonder how stable things really are behind the scenes.

For now, Eclipse remains in development. But this story probably is not finished yet.
