PlayStation quietly shuts down Dark Outlaw Games just one year after launch

The Dark Outlaw Games shutdown has landed, and it’s come far quicker than anyone expected. Just a year after PlayStation Studios introduced the team, it’s already gone, with its first project never seeing the light of day.

The studio was led by Jason Blundell, known for his work on Call of Duty Zombies, which made this one feel like a serious long-term bet. Instead, it barely got started.

Initial reports came from forum chatter, but things escalated once industry sources backed it up. At that point, it stopped looking like noise and started looking like another quiet cut.

Dark Outlaw Games shutdown tied to PlayStation strategy shift

The Dark Outlaw Games shutdown doesn’t seem like a one-off. Reports suggest around 50 roles have been cut, mainly from PlayStation’s mobile side in the US and UK.

There’s also talk that Sony is scaling back its mobile push. Games like MLB The Show Mobile and Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble remain, but the wider plan now looks tighter and more selective.

At the time of writing, there’s still no official statement. But the pattern is getting harder to ignore. New studios are being formed, then shut just as fast – and players are left wondering what actually sticks.
