MindsEye studio hit with more layoffs as Build a Rocket Boy again claims sabotage

MindsEye

The studio behind MindsEye is facing another round of layoffs, and the explanation is raising eyebrows across the industry.

Build a Rocket Boy, the developer led by former GTA producer Leslie Benzies, confirmed that more staff have been made redundant following the rocky launch of the game.

The announcement came through a LinkedIn post that shared a message from co-CEO Mark Gerhard. In it, Gerhard described the cuts as “deeply painful” and praised the employees affected, calling them extremely talented people who contributed a lot to the studio.

But the message also repeated a claim that has already sparked debate.

MindsEye layoffs linked to alleged sabotage

According to Gerhard, the studio still believes MindsEye’s troubled launch may have been affected by “organised espionage” and corporate sabotage.

He said the company has been working with external partners and legal advisors to investigate what it describes as criminal activity surrounding the release. Because the matter may move towards legal action, the studio says it cannot reveal full details yet.

At the same time, the team insists development on MindsEye is still ongoing as they try to improve the game after its difficult start.

For now though, the reality is clear: the fallout from the launch is still being felt inside the studio. And with more layoffs now confirmed, the story around MindsEye looks far from over.
