Crimson Desert just crossed a big milestone. Over two million players have now wishlisted the open-world action game across platforms. That update comes directly from Pearl Abyss.
It shows a strong interest. Big fantasy open-world games have been rare recently. Players clearly want something fresh. And this project has been in development for years.
Scale is a major talking point. The studio has hinted the world could be about twice the size of Skyrim. That alone is enough to grab attention. Expectations are rising fast.
Story depth meets open-world freedom in Crimson Desert
PR Director Will Powers recently spoke in a YouTube interview with Luke Stephens. The discussion turned to gameplay style. Stephens suggested it leaned closer to Breath of the Wild than The Witcher 3.
Powers pushed back. He said the game sits right in the middle. There is a strong story thread. There are cinematic cutscenes too. But it is not as story-heavy as The Witcher 3. Player freedom still matters a lot.

That is a bold claim. Both comparison games are industry giants. Few titles reach that level.
Still, Pearl Abyss does not need perfection. Getting close would already be a big win. March 19 is not far now. Players will soon see if the hype pays off.
