When Valve first announced the new Steam hardware in late 2025, it said the products would launch in early 2026. That plan has not changed. However, the company has now explained that it cannot confirm prices yet because of ongoing memory and storage shortages across the tech industry.
According to Valve, the global shortage of memory and storage parts has become worse over time. These parts are now harder to find and cost more than before. Because of this, the company needs more time to decide final prices, especially for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame.
This issue is not only affecting Valve. Many other devices, including laptops and even future game consoles, may also face delays. The main reason is the growing demand for memory caused by AI development.
Even with these challenges, Valve says the release schedule itself has not been delayed. The team simply wants to make sure the pricing feels fair and reasonable. Valve also confirmed that users will have freedom to customise their system. The company plans to release CAD files and full specs for the Steam Machine faceplate. This means gamers and third-party makers can create their own accessories. Both the SSD and memory will be easy to access and upgrade as well.
