Hollow Knight: Silksong smashes 4.2 million sales and reignites the original

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong didn’t just arrive, it exploded. Since its September launch, Team Cherry’s long-awaited sequel has already racked up over 4.2 million sales, and that’s not even counting the 1.5 million players diving in through Game Pass.

GameDiscoverCo’s breakdown shows just how fast this thing is moving. Steam alone accounts for 3.2 million copies, with PlayStation and Switch splitting another million between them. Throw in Xbox once numbers drop, and Silksong could be looking at five million players in record time.

The sequel lifts the original back into the spotlight

The momentum hasn’t just boosted the new release. According to Alinea Analytics, between September 7–13, Silksong was second only to Borderlands 4 on Steam with 530,000 sales that week. Right behind it? The original Hollow Knight, moving 205,000 copies and keeping a three-week streak above 200k alive. For a game that’s already passed 15 million lifetime sales, that’s a staggering comeback.

Of course, the rise hasn’t been without drama. Hell is Us director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête slammed Team Cherry for dropping Silksong with just two weeks’ notice, a move he says undercut his own game’s release. Meanwhile, the community is split over the difficulty, pushing out mods and forcing Team Cherry to patch in tweaks.
