Mortal Kombat II trailer throws Johnny Cage into the fight, but the CGI’s not flawless

Mortal Kombat II - Karl Urban as Johnny Cage

Warner Bros. has just dropped the first proper trailer for Mortal Kombat II, and it’s all fists, fireballs, and familiar fatalities, with a long-awaited Johnny Cage finally entering the fray. The movie hits theatres on 24 October 2025, and this trailer wastes no time showing off who’s now front and centre.

Karl Urban, known for playing hard-edged types in The Boys and Dredd, is stepping into Johnny Cage’s shades. And yeah, the trailer makes it pretty clear: this one’s going to be his story. Or at least, it’ll be his face getting kicked in a lot as he tries to stay alive long enough to make it to the tournament proper.

The Mortal Kombat II trailer opens with Cage dodging, cracking wise, and slowly realising he might be in way over his Hollywood head. But don’t worry, this is still Mortal Kombat, and the blood-soaked spectacle is intact.

Scorpion slices, Noob Saibot dies again in Mortal Kombat

Of course, Cage isn’t the only one in action. The trailer gives us a meaty glimpse of Scorpion slicing Noob Saibot in half literally right at the end. It’s flashy, brutal, and totally on-brand for the franchise. The only problem? The CGI doesn’t quite land.

That final shot’s got fans raising eyebrows more than fists. While the 2021 movie was never a masterclass in storytelling, it did deliver some decent choreography. Here’s hoping Mortal Kombat II follows suit because if the visuals stay that rough, even a good brawl might not save it.

Still, there’s plenty of time for touch-ups before October rolls around. And let’s face it: most of us aren’t here for plot. We’re here for absurd combos, ridiculous deaths, and someone shouting “Finish him!” on the big screen again.

So yeah, Johnny Cage is finally in the fight. Let’s just hope he doesn’t tap out early.
