Bandai Namco and Engine Software have announced Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition for PlayStation 5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC. It launches on 10 October, the same day as Little Nightmares III. But if you pre-order Little Nightmares III on PS5, Xbox, or PC, you can play it right now.

This version brings the first Little Nightmares game to modern systems with visual upgrades and better performance. It’s a great way to return—or a solid place to start.

This is the same creepy tale, but with a serious upgrade. The game now runs in 4K resolution at 60 FPS. You can pick between Quality Mode or Performance Mode based on what matters more to you—detail or smoothness.

They’ve added more visual effects, too. Ray-traced reflections. Better lighting. More particles. Sharper water and shadows. It all adds to the eerie atmosphere. New helper tools are included as well, making the experience smoother without changing the challenge.

Six’s story, retold

You play as Six, a small child trapped in a huge and terrifying vessel called The Maw. Everything is wrong here. The adults are twisted and dangerous. The only way out is to sneak, hide, and sometimes run for your life.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Wake up in the dark – You only have a lighter. You don’t know where you are. But you’re in danger.
  • Use your size – Climb drawers. Slip through gaps. Find hidden paths too small for the monsters.
  • Avoid the Residents – They hear everything. Move quietly. Distract them if you must. But don’t get caught.
  • Run when needed – Sometimes, hiding isn’t enough. If they spot you, run fast and don’t stop.

You can’t carry your save from the original game to this version—or the other way around. So it’s a clean start.

Little Nightmares has been scaring and charming players since 2017. This Enhanced Edition makes it feel fresh again. If you’ve played it before, it’s worth returning. If you haven’t, now’s the best time.

You can wait for 10 October or jump in early by pre-ordering Little Nightmares III. The Maw is waiting.
