The PlayStation Portal is a small handheld device made by Sony. It was first designed to play games from your PS5 using Remote Play. That means your PS5 had to be at home, turned on, and connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Portal. But now things have changed.

Since November 2024, PlayStation Portal supports a new feature called Cloud Streaming (Beta). Thanks to this update, you can now use PlayStation Portal without a PS5.
With Cloud Streaming, you can play over 200 PS5 games directly on your Portal. You don’t need to own a PS5. You don’t even need to be at home. All you need is a good Wi-Fi connection and a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
To use Cloud Streaming, your internet must be at least 5 Mbps. For better quality like 720p or 1080p, you’ll need faster speeds (7–13 Mbps). The better your connection, the better the game will look and feel.
You can adjust the game’s resolution manually in the settings menu if needed. The maximum is 1080p at 60 frames per second.
Here’s what you need to play on PlayStation Portal:

- A Wi-Fi connection (no mobile networks supported).
- A PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
- A PlayStation Portal (no PS5 needed).
Some things to keep in mind:
- Only PS5 games work with Cloud Streaming (PS4 and PS3 games do not).
- You cannot buy or manage your PlayStation Plus plan from the Portal itself—you’ll need to do that on the PlayStation website or another device.
This update makes the PlayStation Portal more than just a screen for your PS5. It’s now a powerful portable gaming system. Even without a console, you can enjoy top-quality PS5 games from almost anywhere.

PlayStation Portal without PS5 gives you freedom. Game from a hotel, a café, or your bedroom—even if your PS5 is miles away, or you don’t have one at all.
