Red Dead Redemption is finally getting the modern treatment players have been asking for, with Rockstar confirming a full new-gen and mobile release on 2 December 2025. The update arrives just days after an ESRB listing hinted that something was on the way, and now the studio has laid out exactly what fans can expect.

Both the base game and Undead Nightmare are included, and anyone who already owns the PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch version won’t need to pay again. It’s a straight, free upgrade across the board, which is rare to see in today’s market.
On PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game runs at 4K and 60 FPS with HDR and improved image quality. Switch 2 also gets a proper boost, complete with DLSS support, HDR, and updated Joy-Con 2 controls. Even better, it hits 60 FPS on the new hardware, giving handheld players a much smoother experience than before.
PlayStation Plus Extra members will get instant access when the game joins the service on launch day. GTA+ subscribers also get the game as part of their plan. On mobile, it’ll be available through the App Store and Google Play, but Netflix subscribers can play it directly inside the Netflix app.

It’s a major step forward for Red Dead Redemption, finally bringing it up to a standard that fits current hardware. But it also raises the familiar question: where is the native PS5 and Xbox version of Red Dead Redemption 2? With Rockstar focused on Grand Theft Auto VI and dealing with criticism over alleged union-busting, there’s still no sign of that upgrade, and fans are running out of patience.
