Xencelabs has launched its latest drawing tablet, the Pen Display 16 Lite, a lightweight 4K OLED pen display made for artists who love to create wherever they go. Priced at $799, this device mixes professional quality with easy portability, giving creators the power of a studio in a slim and travel-friendly design.

The packaging itself features a beautiful artwork based on Ted Paul, a lively frog character brought to life through an international creative project involving Xencelabs, Pixar’s RenderMan team, DAMN! Visdev Studio, and Dell. The artwork was first drawn by fantasy illustrator Jesper Ejsing, who wanted to make a frog look expressive and human-like. Later, the team turned his sketch into a full 3D animated character using advanced tools like ZBrush, Maya, and Substance Painter all powered by Xencelabs displays and Dell’s RTX A6000 workstations.

Jesper shared that his goal was to give Ted Paul a mix of emotion and charm while keeping his natural frog-like feel. The creative team used Xencelabs pen displays to make every brush stroke precise and natural, ensuring Jesper’s original style stayed intact in 3D form. The project also used RenderMan 27’s new XPU rendering system, which made real-time rendering and stylised visuals possible.

According to Fabio Sciedlarczyk and Nicolas De Aquino from DAMN! Visdev Studio, the Xencelabs displays helped artists keep complete control over their designs. They explained that the tablets allowed them to capture every small detail with accuracy, making it easy to balance art and technology.

The animated short Ted’s World, featuring Ted Paul’s adventures in his pond, is set to release in 2026. It will show off Pixar’s latest RenderMan tools and highlight how creative technology like Xencelabs displays can inspire both artists and animators.

When it comes to the Pen Display 16 Lite itself, Xencelabs designed it by listening closely to what artists wanted. The result is a thin, light, and well-built device that feels natural to use. It features a bright 4K OLED screen with over a billion colours and a contrast ratio of 100,000:1. The display also supports major colour spaces, including Adobe RGB (98%) and P3-D65 (98%), giving artists true-to-life colours for their work.

The tablet comes with two advanced pens a 3-button pen and a thin pen both with erasers and 10 extra nibs. Artists will also find a pen case, glove, adapter, and Bluetooth dongle inside the box. The screen is anti-glare and feels smooth, offering a natural pen-to-paper experience with very light pressure response, starting at just 3 grams.

Another highlight is its single-cable USB-C connection, which supports DP Alt Mode. For setups using HDMI or DisplayPort, users can connect through the Xencelabs Hub, sold separately. Despite its professional features, the display is only 12mm thick and weighs just 1.2 kg, making it one of the most portable professional pen displays available today.
