The Wraith Ops demo has quietly landed on Steam, and the pitch is blunt. Less monetisation noise. More actual shooting. It is a bold angle in a market packed with seasonal passes and flashy extras.
Developed by Grassrootz Games and published by Team17, the shooter leans hard into a “gameplay first” identity. The studio openly rejects gacha systems, heavy cosmetics, and the usual FOMO tactics. That alone sets the tone.
Wraith Ops demo itself is short but focused. Arena mode leads the charge. It is 6v6, single life per round, across Airfield, Mall, and Submarine. Matches feel tense, not chaotic. Every move counts more than usual.

Naturally, comparisons with Call of Duty pop up, but the developers push back fast. They position this as the opposite of the blockbuster formula often linked with Activision.
This project has been around for years. Some may remember the early Project Wraith build. Since then, hundreds of fixes have shaped the current demo.
Whether this stripped-down approach wins players is still unclear. But at least it is trying something different, and right now, that alone feels worth watching.
