Wildgate gets exciting July 22 release date with open beta starting June 9

Wildgate, the upcoming team-based space shooter from Moonshot Games and published by Dreamhaven, is officially set to launch on 22 July for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC via Steam. It’ll be priced at $29.99 (around £24), but you won’t have to wait until release day to jump in a free open beta is scheduled from 9 to 16 June, giving players an early chance to dive into the action.

The game blends spaceship combat with fast-paced first-person shooting, and it’s built around teamwork. You’re not just fighting to survive—you’re chasing after the Artifact, a mysterious object that could make or break your crew. Every match drops you into the Reach, a huge procedurally generated map full of hazards, rival ships, and loot.

According to game director Dustin Browder, the team made a lot of changes based on community feedback. Over 100,000 players joined the earlier preview tests, and that helped shape the experience heading into launch. “The excitement to return to the Reach has us focused on delivering the best experience possible,” Browder said.

Dreamhaven’s CEO, Mike Morhaime, added that the heart of Wildgate lies in shared moments. Whether it’s through firefights, close calls, or clutch victories, it’s all about creating memories with your crew. “That sense of togetherness is what transforms each match into something truly memorable,” he said.

What to expect from Wildgate’s space mayhem

You and your crew control a ship that’s both your home and your lifeline. You’ll need to keep it stocked with fuel, ammo, and supplies while exploring the Reach. Every match is different, thanks to the procedural map, so there’s no script to follow, just adapt and survive. One minute you might be repairing a damaged hull mid-fight, the next you’re racing another crew to a hidden stash of resources.

You can pick from different prospectors, each with their tools and abilities. Some are better pilots, others are all about gadgets and sabotage. However, you play, it’s designed to reward teamwork, improvisation, and thinking on your feet.

Ship battles are chaotic and creative, you can go full firepower, set up traps, or mess with enemy systems. And if your plan falls apart (which it probably will), you just wing it and hope for the best.

The ultimate goal is to grab the Artifact and make it through the Wildgate, or take down every other crew and be the last one standing. Either way, you’ll need to be smart, fast, and in sync with your team.

If Wildgate sounds like your kind of chaos, the open beta from 9 to 16 June is your chance to get hands-on. Then gear up for launch on 22 July, space crimes await.
