Activision is about to test Warzone players in a very different way.
On 13 March 2026, Call of Duty: Warzone is getting a new mode called Black Ops Royale. It is inspired by the old Blackout mode from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. But this is not just a simple throwback. It feels like a reset button.
There are no custom loadouts. No Gulag safety net. No Buy Stations to bail you out. You drop in and survive with what you find. That alone changes the pace.
Weapons are based on the arsenal from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. They come as pre-built archetypes. You upgrade them through rarity tiers as you loot. It is more about smart scavenging than pre-match planning.
Black Ops Royale removes Warzone’s safety nets
The core idea behind Black Ops Royale is simple: fewer second chances, more pressure. You wingsuit into Avalon, a massive map built for large-scale fights. Twenty-four rival squads stand between you and victory.
Equipment is limited to two items. Think Grapple Hooks, Sensor Darts, or Trauma Kits. Perks also return, but now sit in five flexible, consumable slots. You choose what matters in the moment.

Warzone has grown complex over the years. Black Ops Royale strips it back. It rewards awareness, quick thinking, and good loot routes.
If players want higher stakes again, this could be the shake-up Warzone needs.
