Valve quietly retires the Steam Deck LCD, leaving OLED as the only option

Steam Deck

Valve has quietly pulled the 256GB LCD Steam Deck from production, making the OLED model the only choice for new buyers. The announcement wasn’t loud; it appeared as a small note on the Steam Deck store page, confirming that what’s left in stock is the final batch.

At the time of writing, you could still add the 256GB LCD to your basket, but exactly how many units remain is unclear, and they won’t last long.

Steam Deck OLED takes centre stage

Going forward, anyone looking to get a Steam Deck will need to step up to the OLED version. The 512GB OLED model starts at $549, quite a jump from the $399 256GB LCD. But the higher price comes with clear benefits: a bigger, sharper screen, stronger networking, a larger battery, and even a longer charging cable.

Discontinuing the LCD model isn’t a surprise, but many expected a clearance sale during the Steam Winter Sale or ahead of the festive season. Valve has done this before, last year they slashed 15% off the 64GB LCD model before phasing it out entirely.

Steam’s store now leaves no room for doubt:

“We are no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model. Once sold out, it will no longer be available.”

Valve’s attention is already shifting to newer hardware, including the Steam Machine, a hybrid device that combines a gaming PC and a home console, scheduled for 2026. Pricing details are still under wraps, but it’s clear Valve is moving toward bigger, brighter hardware.

If you were holding out for a bargain on the LCD Steam Deck, the window is closing fast. Valve has officially moved on.
