Things were getting messy for Subnautica 2, but the situation has finally settled. After a legal dispute between KRAFTON and Unknown Worlds, the project is now back in safe hands, and more importantly, back on schedule.

Subnautica 2 early access is officially targeting a May 2026 release on Xbox and PC. No exact date yet, but the window is locked.

Behind the scenes, a court ruling pushed things in favour of the studio’s co-founders. That decision forced KRAFTON to step back and restore leadership control. Since then, both sides have agreed to move forward without further disruption.

While all this was happening, the team kept working. New story chapters have been added, along with more creatures and fresh biomes to explore. It is not just damage control; the game has actually grown during the chaos.

Studio head Steve Papoutsis confirmed the project recently cleared a key milestone review. That is usually a strong sign that development is stable and ready for the next phase.

Even though KRAFTON is not fully happy with the ruling, it is still backing the May launch plan. The focus now is simple: avoid delays and get the game into players’ hands.

For now, Subnautica 2 looks steady again, but the real test will be launch day.
