Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic brings back choice-driven RPG storytelling at TGA 2025

Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic

The long-missing remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still nowhere to be seen, but there is finally something new for fans to lock onto. Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic has been officially revealed, and it is very much aiming to fill that gap.

The game was announced during The Game Awards 2025 with a short but confident teaser. This is a fully single-player, narrative-driven action RPG, and it is being described as a spiritual successor to Knights of the Old Republic, not a remake or reboot.

Development is being handled by Arcanaut Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, and there is a familiar name leading the project. Casey Hudson, game director on the original KOTOR and the Mass Effect trilogy, is at the helm.

According to the official description, players will explore a galaxy on the brink of rebirth, where every decision shapes their journey towards either the light or the dark side. Choice, consequence, and storytelling are clearly the core focus here.

There is no release window yet, which is frustrating but expected at this stage. The trailer did confirm that its cinematic scenes were captured in Unreal Engine 5, setting expectations for a modern visual presentation.

More details will be shared once the game’s official website goes live. For now, this is the closest thing to a true KOTOR successor fans have had in years.
