1047 Games is hitting reset. Splitgate 2 is being “unlaunched” and pushed back to beta. A full relaunch is now planned for early 2026.
The studio admits it launched too early. Key systems weren’t finished. Fan feedback was harsh. The result? A massive overhaul is underway.
Co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian said;
“We bit off more than we could chew”. “We rushed certain features, made some boneheaded mistakes, and most importantly, we didn’t give you the polished, portal-filled mayhem you fell in love with.”
Here’s what’s changing in Splitgate 2:
- Full progression rework
- Simpler monetisation
- Classic game modes return
- More portals across maps
Splitgate 2 will stay live for now. Chapter 3 is still coming. But it’s back in beta status until the relaunch.

Layoffs and Shutdowns
At the same time, 1047 Games is laying off 45 more staff. To cut costs, the original Splitgate will go offline next month.
The team says keeping those servers up has cost “hundreds of thousands” over two years. They’re looking into an offline or peer-to-peer mode but haven’t promised anything.
The plan is to fold OG Splitgate into Splitgate 2 as a “dedicated experience.”
“We’ve made a lot of mistakes,” the statement ends. “But we aren’t giving up. We love this game and this community too much.”

Splitgate 2 launched with bold talk and big promises. Now it’s starting over. The question is, will players still be around when it returns?
