Sony takes Tencent to court over Horizon ‘rip-off’ Light of Motiram

Light of Motiram

Sony is suing Tencent over Light of Motiram. The game looks a lot like Horizon Zero Dawn. The Studio says it’s more than inspiration, it’s theft.

The lawsuit claims copyright and trademark infringement. Sony calls Motiram a “slavish copy.”

The game was revealed in November 2024. Fans quickly spotted the similarities. Robot animals, lush open world, red-haired lead, it all felt familiar.

Tencent later showed a gameplay trailer. It didn’t help. The game looked even more like Horizon.

Sony points to press calling it a clone

Media piled on. Headlines called it a knock-off. One even said “Horizon Zero Originality.” They included that in the lawsuit.

Reuters says they are using the media reaction as evidence. That public view might help their case.

Still, these lawsuits are tough. Nintendo is struggling to prove Palworld copied Pokémon. Looks alone aren’t always enough.

If Sony wins, studios might think twice before copying. If they lose, expect more “inspired” games to pop up.

This case could set the tone for future IP fights. Everyone’s watching.
