Rules of Engagement: The Grey State turns horror into a tactical free-to-play extraction shooter

Rules of Engagement: The Gray State

Grey State Studio has lifted the lid on Rules of Engagement: The Grey State, a new horror-infused, free-to-play PvPvE extraction shooter, and it looks wickedly tense. The team dropped both a cinematic and gameplay trailer, teasing a grim world packed with monsters and rival squads hungry for blood and loot.

You step into the boots of a Strider, an elite operative sent into the Grey State to retrieve priceless artefacts, with The Vertex being the ultimate prize. But survival won’t be easy. Squads drop in with nothing but basic gear, forced to scavenge weapons and supplies before the final showdown kicks off. When that happens, it’s all about choice: bail early for a guaranteed payout or stay and gamble everything for glory.

What’s really catching attention here is the horror edge. The trailer flashes glimpses of twisted creatures inspired by classic monsters, one that looks like a facehugger, another eerily close to Slenderman. It’s creepy, cinematic, and refreshingly different from the usual extraction formula.

No release date yet, but if you love tense squad shooters with a dark twist, Rules of Engagement: The Grey State deserves a spot on your watchlist.
