Prime Video is ramping up its God of War series, and the first major casting announcements are here. Fans now know who will bring the iconic gods of Asgard to life on screen.
Mandy Patinkin to play Odin
Legendary actor Mandy Patinkin, famous for The Princess Bride, will play Odin, the All-Father and ruler of the Norse pantheon. Heimdall’s actor, Max Parker, was confirmed earlier, giving the show a strong start in portraying Asgard’s key figures.

Thor’s troubled side revealed
Thor will be portrayed by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, known for his intense role in Severance. The series presents Thor as a former Asgardian soldier and Odin’s right-hand man, now struggling with self-doubt and alcohol. This darker, humanised take sets him apart from the usual superhero version.
Interestingly, Ryan Hurst, who plays Kratos, previously voiced Thor in God of War: Ragnarök. Teresa Palmer is also confirmed as Sif, Thor’s wife, adding more depth to the Norse story.

Season 2 is already confirmed
Amazon isn’t wasting time. God of War has already been renewed for a second season, even before filming starts. Production is set for February 2026, with Frederick E. O. Toye, known for Fallout, directing the first two episodes.

A premiere date is still unannounced, but with this casting and strong production team, the series is shaping up to be Prime Video’s next big fantasy hit. Fans of Norse mythology and the God of War franchise have a lot to look forward to.
