Octopath Traveler 0 has been revealed during the July Nintendo Direct. It launches on 4 December 2025 for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.

Set in the world of Orsterra, the game starts in the town of Wishvale, which is destroyed early in the story. Players will rebuild it and seek revenge against those responsible.

Create your own hero, recruit 30+ characters

This is the first game in the series to feature full character customisation. You can choose your hero’s appearance, voice, animations, and even favourite food. Over 30 recruitable characters will be available, each with unique abilities and roles.

The game uses the same HD-2D art style as previous entries, with improved visuals and more detailed environments.

Octopath Traveler 0 serves as a standalone prequel. The original game launched on Switch in 2018 before expanding to PC, Stadia, Xbox, and eventually PlayStation in 2024. Octopath Traveler II followed in 2023 but didn’t release on Xbox until later.

Octopath Traveler 0 was one of the the standout reveals at the Nintendo Partner Showcase.
