A brand new Ninja Gaiden game is coming, and it’s not what you might expect. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a 2D side-scrolling action platformer developed by The Game Kitchen and published by Dotemu, launching on July 31 for PS5, Xbox, PS4, Switch, and PC via Steam.
Before the full release, you’ll be able to try it out early. A free demo will be available for PC from June 9 to 16, during Steam Next Fest. If you’re curious about how it plays, this will be your chance.

What to expect from Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
Ragebound picks up right after the opening of the original NES Ninja Gaiden, but instead of following Ryu Hayabusa, it puts the spotlight on Kenji Mozu, a young ninja from the Hayabusa Clan. The world is falling apart as the barrier between humans and demons breaks down, and Kenji steps up to face what’s coming.

Joining him is Kumori, a deadly kunoichi from the Black Spider Clan, yes, the same clan that’s usually an enemy. The two have to work together, combining their powers and overcoming the grudges between their clans. It’s not just about survival, it’s about mastering their abilities and trusting one another in battle.

Combat looks fast, brutal, and precise, true to the Ninja Gaiden legacy. You’ll need sharp reflexes, quick thinking, and no hesitation. The game also includes big boss fights, optional challenges, hidden items, and upgrades that push you to explore and improve your skills.
Visually, it goes for beautiful pixel art that brings classic Ninja Gaiden vibes with fresh detail. Enemies look fierce, the environments are dark and stylish, and everything moves with purpose. The music also plays a big role. Guest composers Keiji Yamagishi, Ryuichi Niita, and Kaori Nakabai—the same folks behind the NES Ninja Gaiden soundtracks—have returned for this one. Leading the overall soundtrack is Sergio de Prado, best known for his work on Blasphemous.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound isn’t just a tribute, it’s a full-on evolution. A mix of old-school challenge and modern polish that wants you to earn every moment. If you’re a fan of tough platformers or just miss the intensity of the older Ninja Gaiden games, this one should be on your radar.
Watch for the PC demo from June 9, and get ready for the full release on July 31.
