We’re only halfway through 2025, and it already feels like one of the strongest year for games in a long while. From long-awaited sequels to total surprises, the lineup has been stacked—and the second half is bringing even more heat. Some games have already landed with a bang, climbing the charts and blowing past expectations, while others are building massive hype as we count down to release.
Here’s a look at the biggest releases of 2025 so far—and the games we can’t wait to get our hands on.
Already released and breaking everything
The brutal return of DOOM: The Dark Ages
DOOM goes medieval. The Dark Ages flips the game series on its head with brutal, bloody combat and a heavy, grounded aesthetic. It’s still fast and chaotic, but now you’re using shields, dark magic, and even a dragon. id Software delivered something fresh without losing the series’ core chaos, and players are loving it.

Welcome to the hunt: Monster Hunter Wilds
With seamless exploration, dynamic weather, and a world that fights back, Monster Hunter Wilds took everything fans loved and evolved it. Bigger monsters, smarter AI, and co-op moments that feel more intense than ever. It’s no surprise it’s been topping global sales since game launch.

The shadow spreads in Elden Ring: Nightreign
The long-awaited expansion (or should we say evolution?) of Elden Ring did not disappoint. Nightreign brings a darker tone, brutal new enemies, and some of the best boss fights FromSoftware has ever crafted. The world feels familiar but twisted in the best way. It’s not just DLC, it’s a whole new nightmare.

A new journey in Avowed
Obsidian Entertainment came through with a full-blown fantasy RPG game that’s both deep and approachable. Set in the world of Eora (from Pillars of Eternity), Avowed has great writing, meaningful choices, and spellcasting that feels powerful. For RPG fans, this one’s already a top-tier pick of the year.

Back to Bohemia: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
This game sequel does what every great sequel should: it builds on everything that worked and then goes further. With sharper visuals, better combat, and a more personal story, Deliverance II pulls you deep into the medieval world. If you want realism, choice, and grit, it’s already here and it’s excellent.

Still to come — the most anticipated games of 2025
Big Boss returns in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Coming 28 August 2025
Metal Gear Solid 3 is a classic, and now it’s getting a proper reimagining with Delta: Snake Eater, powered by Unreal Engine 5. Konami is modernising the controls with a “New Style” scheme inspired by Metal Gear Solid V, but if you love that old-school feel, “Legacy Style” is also included. Given how promising the Silent Hill 2 remake looks, this could be another major win. Classic stealth, jaw-dropping visuals, and a whole lot of nostalgia? Count us in.

Deep in the forest with Dying Light: The Beast
Coming 22 August 2025
This isn’t your typical Dying Light game expansion; it’s a full standalone experience. You step back into the shoes of Kyle Crane, years after he was locked away and experimented on. Now he’s got beast-like powers and a serious grudge. Set in Castor Woods, a creepy, undead-infested former tourist town, The Beast looks dark, intense, and way more personal than before. The infected aren’t the only monsters this time.

Kojima’s latest mind-bender: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Coming 26 June 2025
Yes, it’s weird. Yes, it’s Kojima. And yes—it looks incredible. Sam Bridges is back for another mysterious mission, and this time, the stakes seem even bigger. With a new cast including Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Luca Marinelli, Death Stranding 2 is exploring whether humanity ever should have reconnected at all. A 10-minute trailer already gave us chills, and knowing Kojima Productions, we’re in for something unforgettable.

Survival and sword fights in Crimson Desert
Planned for 2025
Crimson Desert drops you into Pywel, a war-torn continent, where you play as Kliff, a mercenary with a brutal past. This game looks stunning and isn’t just pretty for the sake of it. It’s got a full-on story mode, a deep combat system, and a huge world to explore. It could be this year’s sleeper hit if it sticks the landing. So far, everything we’ve seen screams quality, and it might just scratch that Elden Ring-meets-Witcher itch.

Loot, chaos, and mayhem in Borderlands 4
Coming 12 September 2025
We’re heading to a new planet, Kairos, ruled by a time-obsessed tyrant known as the Timekeeper. In classic Borderlands fashion, expect over-the-top action, wild weapons, and a bunch of new Vault Hunters. With new movement mechanics, deeper skill trees, and some very chaotic vibes, Borderlands 4 is staying true to its roots but cranking everything up. If you’re into looter shooters, this is the one to watch.

Fantasy on a new scale in Chrono Odyssey
Release date: To be announced
This one’s for MMO lovers. Chrono Odyssey is a next-gen action MMORPG running on Unreal Engine 5, and it looks seriously impressive. The hook? Time manipulation during combat, and a truly seamless open world that stretches across forests, snowfields, swamps, and more. The world design feels huge and alive, and if it plays as good as it looks, it could be one of the biggest online experiences of the year. A playtest is already underway, so we won’t have to wait too long to hear more.

A new legend rises, Ghost of Yōtei
Coming 10 October 2025
The follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima takes us north to Hokkaido, nearly 330 years after the original. But this time, we’re stepping into the shoes of Atsu, a female warrior taking up the mantle of the Ghost. Sucker Punch is promising more player-driven storytelling and a less repetitive open world. If it keeps the heart and soul of Tsushima while giving us new ways to explore it, this could be something special.

The mob story we’ve been waiting for, Mafia: The Old Country
Coming 8 August 2025
Forget open-world sprawl, this Mafia entry is going linear, focused, and cinematic. Set in early 1900s Sicily, you’ll follow Enzo Favara as he rises through a powerful crime family. The trailer shows brutal combat, horseback chases, and gorgeous Unreal Engine 5 visuals. Hangar 13 seems to be going all-in on storytelling, and it could pay off in a big way.

Into the mist with Silent Hill f
Coming 25 September 2025
Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f follows Shimizu Hinako, a high schooler trapped in a town swallowed by thick fog and creeping nightmares. As you explore and make tough choices, the psychological horror ramps up. Your decisions will shape whether Hinako escapes the madness or succumbs to it. This standalone spinoff stays true to Silent Hill’s roots while welcoming newcomers, and it’s packed with creepy atmosphere, puzzles, and Easter eggs for longtime fans. Expect something haunting, strange, and very Silent Hill.
