Mortal Shell II announced with faster combat, no stamina bar, and open world for 2026

Cold Symmetry and Playstack have officially announced Mortal Shell II, and it’s shaping up to be a brutal but refined follow-up to the original. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC (Steam) sometime in 2026.

The sequel keeps the soul-crushing atmosphere and methodical combat fans loved, but now it’s opening things up, with no stamina bar to slow you down, and a compact open world full of danger, mystery, and lore just waiting to be dug up.

Mortal Shell II is expanding everything that made the first game special

If you played the first game, you’ll remember how switching Shells gave you new strengths. Mortal Shell II expands on that in a big way. Each Shell is its own story now, with unique powers and upgrade paths that let you shape your fighting style. You’re not just picking a class, you’re discovering who these warriors were, and what you can become through them.

This time, the world is open but not overwhelming. The devs are calling it “compact,” which means everything is there for a reason. Every footpath, dungeon, or crumbling ruin has something to offer. There are over 60 dungeons alone, scattered across derelict temples, icy tombs, haunted forests, and bone-carved citadels. It’s exploration done with purpose.

Combat also sees a major shift, with no stamina bar. That completely changes how fights flow. You’re free to stay aggressive, focus on breaking enemy posture, and hit back with critical blows. It’s still tough, still weighty, but a lot more fluid.

You play as the Harbinger, a mysterious figure tied to a prophecy. Your goal? To reclaim the stolen Ova of the Undermether from brutal, otherworldly guardians. It’s cryptic, creepy, and exactly the kind of story that unfolds more through exploration than exposition.

Mortal Shell II

Mortal Shell II feels like a natural step forward. More freedom, better flow in combat, richer lore, and a world you’ll want to get lost in. If you’re into dark action RPGs with layered gameplay and no hand-holding, 2026 might just have your next obsession.
