MindsEye flop forces IO Interactive to step back from publishing

MindsEye - android robot

MindsEye’s disastrous release has shaken more than developer Build a Rocket Boy’s future, with IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak admitting the failure has likely derailed the company’s publishing ambitions.

In an interview with IGN, Abrak explained IO wanted to support the game through its IOI Partners program, praising the world and ideas behind it. However, the launch was far from expectations, forcing IO to rethink. The studio will now focus on self-publishing titles like 007 First Light and may step back from publishing third-party projects entirely.

MindsEye is among the worst-reviewed games of the year. Frequent layoffs, slow updates, and a delayed Hitman crossover have only deepened its struggles.

The game is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox.
