Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter Marathon has officially received a T for Teen rating from the ESRB, landing just before the game’s launch on March 5, 2026.
According to the rating summary, the decision comes down to violence, language, and animated blood. That puts the game in familiar territory for modern shooters, but the timing of the rating is interesting as the Marathon launch arrives during a rough period for live service titles.

Before release, Bungie ran a large Server Slam test on February 26. At its peak, more than 143,000 players jumped in to try the game. For a short time, the test even outpaced attention around other shooters, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6.
That momentum did not last long, though. Within a few hours, player numbers dropped by around 30,000, and testers reported a few bugs and technical issues along the way.
Marathon launch expectations
Bungie already has a seasonal structure planned for the game. Season 2, titled Nightfall, is scheduled for June and will run until August, with Season 3 expected to begin afterwards and continue through November.
Each season will reset gear, faction progress, contracts, and player levels, effectively giving everyone a fresh start.

That approach can work in extraction shooters. But right now, the live service market is brutal. Games are launching with big expectations and disappearing just as quickly.
