Hollow Knight: Silksong has exploded out of the gates, pulling in five million players in just three days. Team Cherry’s long-awaited sequel finally landed on 4 September, and the numbers prove the hype wasn’t just noise.
Alinea Insight reports that one million players jumped in through Game Pass, while Steam alone pushed past three million sold copies. That equals around $50 million in revenue in under a week. For an indie release, that’s massive.

Silksong dominates Steam, PlayStation holds strong
Silksong crushed its indie competition. Schedule 1, Peak, and R.E.P.O. managed a combined 1.4 million copies between them this year – but Silksong doubled that total on its own.

The US and China topped the charts on Steam, with Russia, Japan, and Brazil rounding out the top five. Over on PlayStation, 30% of the player base came from North America, while East Asia and Western Europe each accounted for 14%.
What’s wild is how Team Cherry pulled it off. After years of near-total silence, the studio announced a release date only two weeks before launch. That mystery fuelled years of speculation at every big showcase. When the reveal finally hit, fans piled in immediately.
Silksong isn’t just a sequel – it’s set a new benchmark for indie launches. The question now is simple: how high can Hornet climb from here?
