Hollow Knight is officially making its way to Nintendo Switch 2. Team Cherry has revealed a new edition of the 2017 indie Metroidvania, giving fans a chance to explore Hallownest like never before.
Originally a Kickstarter hit, Hollow Knight became one of the most celebrated indies of the 2010s. You play as the silent Knight, facing brutal bosses and navigating a bug-infested world filled with secrets. Its tough but fair gameplay and gorgeous hand-drawn visuals helped it earn a loyal following.
The Nintendo Switch 2 edition will feature higher frame rates, improved resolutions, and new graphical effects. No exact release date was given, but it’s expected sometime in 2026. Screenshots and details have already been shared by Team Cherry on their blog.

Here’s the kicker: if you own Hollow Knight on the original Switch, the upgrade to Switch 2 is completely free. There’ll also be an update for current consoles packed with new features and bug fixes.
This news comes after Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced to get a free DLC expansion, Sea of Sorrow, also arriving in 2026. Fans can now look forward to experiencing both games on the new console, enhanced and ready to explore.
The Switch may have first welcomed Hollow Knight back in 2018, but the next chapter is shaping up to be the biggest yet.
