Half Life 3 has dodged another wave of hype, and this time the disappointment hit hard. November 11th was painted as the day Valve would finally break its silence, with self-proclaimed insiders promising a major reveal. But once the dust settled, there was no Gordon Freeman, no crowbar, and definitely no Half Life 3.
Instead, Valve rolled out a fresh trio of hardware updates: the Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame. Solid reveals, sure, but not the one fans have been clinging to for years. And this isn’t the first time the rumour mill has spun out of control. Back in June, similar claims circled around Summer Game Fest 2025, but that came and went without a hint of the sequel.

It’s strange to see Half Life 3 buzz roaring this loudly in 2025, especially when the evidence is paper-thin. Some whispers suggested the game was deep into development and polishing up for a reveal, but nothing concrete has ever surfaced. And really, if Valve were prepping something that big, it wouldn’t be squeezed alongside hardware news. It would dominate the stage on its own.
For now, the dream stays a dream. The clock resets again, and Half Life 3 remains just out of reach. If you want something to fill the gap, the fan-made Project Borealis demo in Unreal Engine 5 is your best bet.

Until Valve finally speaks, the waiting game continues.
