GTA 6 launch plan looks smart as Rockstar moves to stop leaks early

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is shaping up to be one of the biggest game launches ever, and Rockstar Games appears to be taking smart steps to protect it from leaks.

According to a new report from a Polish news site, video game sellers believe GTA 6 will launch as a digital-only game at first. This move is said to apply to both console and PC versions. The goal is simple: stop leaks before the game officially goes live.

In recent years, game leaks often happen through physical copies. Stores receive game boxes days or even weeks before launch. Sometimes, store workers or owners share photos, videos, or even gameplay online early. Rockstar wants to avoid that problem this time.

By skipping physical copies at launch, retailers will not have early access to the game. This reduces the risk of screenshots, packaging images, or gameplay clips appearing online before release.

The report also claims that GTA 6 will still get a physical release, but not on day one. The physical version is expected to arrive later, possibly just a few weeks after the digital launch. Sellers say they do not yet know the exact date for boxed copies.

This strategy makes sense. Rockstar gets better control over leaks, while physical buyers likely will not have to wait too long. With GTA 6 currently expected to release on November 19, 2026, a physical launch before Christmas seems very likely.

Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have already shown how serious they are about security. In the past, staff members were reportedly fired over leaked information. A digital-first launch is another strong step to protect the game’s surprises.

If true, this plan could help ensure players experience GTA 6 the way Rockstar intended fresh, spoiler-free, and exciting from day one.
