Square Enix has officially confirmed that the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will be expanding beyond PlayStation and PC, with releases planned for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox consoles.
The announcement followed the Nintendo Direct, where Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade was given a release date of January 22, 2026, for the Switch 2. Shortly after, Square Enix clarified on X that the full remake trilogy will also arrive on Switch 2, Xbox, and PC, alongside its already established platforms, PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
This marks a major step for the franchise, ensuring that Final Fantasy VII Remake is no longer locked to just PlayStation and PC. However, there’s still uncertainty surrounding the release timing of the trilogy’s third entry, which remains untitled. Square Enix has yet to confirm if it will launch simultaneously across all platforms, or if PlayStation will retain a timed exclusivity window similar to the earlier entries.
For fans on Xbox and the upcoming Switch 2, the news comes as a big win. It also raises further speculation about whether Final Fantasy XVI could eventually follow the same path.
