Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV brings epic RTS comeback at Gamescom

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War IV (1)

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has been officially revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live, marking the long-awaited return of one of the most famous real-time strategy series. The announcement came with a powerful CGI trailer, showing the grim battlefield through the eyes of Captain Cyrus of the Blood Ravens. His story of duty and sacrifice sets the stage for the chaos ahead, with the return of factions such as the Space Marines, Orks, Adeptus Mechanicus, and the Necrons. Beloved characters like Jonah and Gorgutz are also returning.

The new game takes players back to the planet Kronus, nearly 200 years after the events of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. This setting brings back the series’ roots with full base-building, large-scale armies, and deep strategy. At the same time, new features and modern design aim to make battles feel more dynamic and fresh for both veterans and new players.

Dawn of War IV – Four factions with 70+ campaign missions

Each of the four factions will have its own campaign, offering more than 70 missions in total. Players will also enjoy around 40 minutes of high-quality cutscenes, co-written by John French, one of the well-known authors from the Black Library. This ensures a dark but powerful story experience that adds to the action.

Beyond campaigns, the game includes multiple modes such as Skirmish, co-op play, competitive multiplayer, and the fan-favourite Last Stand. At launch, Dawn of War IV promises over 110 units and buildings, more than 10 unique commanders, and creative tools like the army painter and map editor for custom content.

The developers are calling this the biggest Dawn of War game to date. Alongside the familiar base-building and army management, a new Combat Director system will enhance melee battles, creating more cinematic and engaging combat.

With its mix of classic RTS mechanics and modern updates, Dawn of War IV is shaping up to be a major return for strategy fans. The series looks ready to deliver epic battles once again on a scale worthy of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
