CI Games teases darker Lords of the Fallen 2 as their “Empire Strikes Back” moment

Lords of the Fallen

CI Games has confirmed that Lords of the Fallen 2 is in development and is targeting a 2026 release. The sequel is being described as a darker and more ambitious follow-up to the 2023 reboot.

The first Lords of the Fallen arrived in 2014 and gained a small following but never reached mainstream success. Its 2023 reboot performed much better, even though it launched with serious issues. CI Games spent two years fixing it, eventually releasing a 2.0 version that improved stability and gameplay.

Lords of the Fallen

In an interview with MP1st, CI Games’ creative portfolio strategist David Valjalo compared the sequel to The Empire Strikes Back in terms of tone and impact. For a newer audience, he likened it to The Dark Knight.

Valjalo said the team is aiming for a bolder and bloodier experience, with new settings, higher stakes, and deeper combat systems. “It improves on the previous game but carries its spirit forward,” he explained.

The studio also recently cut prices across its entire catalogue, including the 2023 release, calling it part of a “player first” approach.

If Lords of the Fallen 2 meets its release window, CI Games hopes it will cement the series as one of its strongest franchises.
