Borderlands 4 has finally landed on PC, and it hasn’t wasted a second making history. Just one hour after launch, the game shot past every other entry in the series to become the biggest Borderlands release on Steam. According to SteamDB, the new loot-shooter pulled in a staggering 201,273 concurrent players at launch – more than Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3 ever managed at their peaks.

For context, Borderlands 2’s record sits at 124,678 players, while Borderlands 3 maxed out at 93,820. In other words, Borderlands 4 has already left its predecessors trailing behind, and that’s just the Steam numbers. We don’t see console player counts in the same way, so the real global total is likely even higher.

PC players can grab the game right now on Steam or the Epic Games Store, while console users will have to wait a few more hours depending on their region. Either way, the excitement is palpable – this is a return to form for Gearbox, especially after many felt Borderlands 3 was a disappointment.

The question now is whether Borderlands 4 can keep this momentum going. For the moment, though, the numbers don’t lie: the vault is open, and players are flooding in.
