Beast of Reincarnation is not a Soulslike, Game Freak focuses on accessible combat

Japanese developer Game Freak has offered a deeper look at its new action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation, following its appearance in the Xbox Developer Direct Show 2026. While many immediately compared it to a Soulslike, the studio is making it clear that the game is aiming for a different kind of experience.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Game Director Kota Furushima explained that accessibility is a core focus. “We want even players who aren’t skilled at action games to enjoy the game,” he said. Players will be able to adjust difficulty levels, giving newcomers a way to ease into the combat without feeling punished.

Furushima emphasised that while players will face challenges, the game isn’t about repeated, punishing boss fights. “I don’t want people to have to retry dozens of times. Trial and error should feel fun, not frustrating,” he added. Instead, the design encourages experimenting with different fighting styles and tweaking skills to find what works.

The game follows Emma the Sealer and her companion Koo, each with three distinct skill trees. These let players adapt their approach, from close-range combat to long-range attacks or stealth. Passive skills also allow boosts to stats or recovery, giving more ways to customise gameplay. Furushima highlighted that adjusting Koo’s support skills can also make encounters easier, making the game friendly to different playstyles.

Beast of Reincarnation is slated for summer 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. More details are expected as the release window draws closer, but it’s clear that Game Freak is aiming for a broad audience rather than a hardcore-only experience.
